The story of boy meets girl, boy and girl fall in love, and then boy and girl live happily-ever-after is never more apparent than with The London Chronicles. Olivia and Jane Benedict, along with their cousin, Samantha Allbright, have discovered a new type of British Invasion. Three handsome, successful men have taken the attention of the spitfire socialites. Eventually, Olivia Benedict pairs up with Christopher Harrington. Jane Benedict falls in love with Alexander Samuel...the second. And brash, stubborn Samantha meets her match with Benjamin Covington. The themes of the Jane Austen classic Pride and Prejudice are never more apparent with the maddeningly quirky villains Laura Martinswip, William Bradley and Sue Manley added to the mix. The miscreants throw just enough tension and drama in to make you really start to root for the three besotted couples. The comedic roller coaster of excitement carries you up and down through an embezzling aunt, a frightening frenzied mother, and maybe just a touch of happily-ever-after.

This story originally appeared as 'She Loved That Dress' on AHA. It's a modern adaption (and reworking) of 'Pride and Prejudice'. The author reworked it a bit for publishing. Perhaps the biggest change is the characters' names. However, whoever edited didn't do a thorough enough job. There are still several 'Elizabeth's, 'Charlotte's, 'Richard's, and 'Darcy's sprinkled throughout. Also, just a personal pet peeve: the quotation marks are often turned in the wrong direction.

However, despite the editing, the story is enjoyable. Olivia (Elizabeth), Jane, and Samantha (Charlotte) run into Christopher (Darcy), Alex (Bingley), and Benjamin (Col. Fitzwilliam) on Elizabeth's last Saturday night in NYC before her move to London. The three guys are all English and work in some fashion for Harrington Enterprises (Christopher's family company; he's CEO). Both Benedict girls are doctors: Olivia is a therapist and Jane in some sort of medicinal. Sam works at the Met in art restoration.

The sextet spend the evening together and only part after dawn. When Olivia moves to London, her and Chris continue to date and instantly recognize how they feel about each other. Jane and Sam quickly come visit, which reinvigorates their pending relationships with the other two bachelors. The story follows their relationships, both highs and lows. Later in the book (perhaps a third of the way), Chris' sister Savannah (Georgiana) begins a relationship with a Harrington Enterprise lawyer, Morgan Grey. The group of six becomes a group of eight.

An interesting conspiracy unravels during the later half involving William Bradley (Wickham) and a woman named Susan (Mrs. Younge). The character of Laura (Anne) - who is cousin to Chris, Ben, and Sav - was unexpectedly deep. However, I wish the story explored her a bit more thoroughly. Most of the information we gleam about her is second- or even third-hand. As a whole, I think the conspiracy was resolved too quickly. The last few chapters returned to a slow chronicle of their romance (much like the beginning).

This story is of course a love story, but a strong theme is friendship. Each individual is more at peace amongst the whole group.

A humorous sprinkling of pop culture is throughout, especially the beginning. I loved the Patrick Swayze/Dirty Dancing reference on the first page. All in all, I'd recommend it.

I couldn't put it down. I have read it twice and more than likely will read it again. If you are an Austen Fan this is a must to read. Well written and keeps your interest in the story.
I would recommend this to anyone who is an Austen Fan.
I was hooked from the begining. This was the first romance type novel I have ever read and it did not let me down. It was a great read.
From the moment I read the first paragraph of this book, I couldnt stop. The London Cronicles is especially engrossing, easy to read, and keeps you wanting to more. The characters are fun and you instantly start to care for them. This book may have the fun descriptions of the rich and the famous ... but it also has some surprising insights of human nature, and dramatic situations that are told by the author in such vivid detail, that makes you feel you are there. Following these characters from the streets of the "Big Apple" to London is an adventure. You find yourself laughing, smiling and sad for them. That is why I would highly recommend this book.

This book is a home run for the first time author. I look forward to reading more of her work.
The first novel by this young author is a winner. She draws you in from the first paragraph and doesn't let go until the end. The book offers romance without graphic descriptions, rather letting you formulate scenarios of your own. It offers a fantasy of ridiculous wealth without flaunting it to those of us without unlimited bank accounts. It showcases beautiful women who are highly educated and who know how to use all of their attributes in a variety of situations. It shows how every family tree has branches that 'snap' once in awhile. I love it when a book has the ability to make you a part of every chapter, where your mind is captured by the surroundings. I could actually feel the Jimmy Choos on my feet! Looking forward to the next offering from this author.
I read She Loved That Dress on AHA and loved it, got online and ordered this immediately, but I am a little disappointed. The name changes seemed unnecessary, and kind of got a little confusing trying to get all of the people right. I also thought that leaving Caroline out of this whole story kind of took away a little bit of something for me. I loved the part in She Loved that Dress where Darcy beat Wickam/Bradley.
This book in a good story, but was disappointed about the major changes from the original story on AHA other than that it would have been a 5 star book for me.
This story is a modern twist on Pride and Prejudice, and it is thoroughly engaging. The author has the ability to create vivid scenes with a minimum amount of words, and as someone who appreciates crisp writing, this book was a pleasure to read. This retelling is not merely a replay of the modern-day romance of Elizabeth and Darcy, but the story of the strong friendship among the six main protagonists. The arrival of the Wickham-type character adds an interesting twist to the plot. All in all, a very satisfying read.
I enjoyed this version of P&P, although, at times, it was not true to the classic. This book could stand alone rather than being considered a piece of fan fiction. The author takes the plot lines and adapts them to 4 different couples, adding in some suspense, evil relatives and an eventual happy ending. It was a fun read.
Because it is self published, there are some typos and in one instance, the wrong character name is used. It is apparent that the author may have used the original character names, then changed them, since "Richard" was refered to and never made an appearance.
I would recommned this to anyone who wants a fun and relaxing read.
